Cllr Craig Cannell - Statement from Rochford District Council

At the request of the family of Cllr Craig Cannell, Rochford District Council issues the following statement on their behalf:

Family and friends have paid tribute to Craig Cannell, a local Liberal Democrat Councillor, after he passed away suddenly on the 14th November, aged 32.

Born in Beverly, raised in Boston, and educated in Sheffield, Craig moved to Essex in 2014 to start his career. Craig was drawn to Rayleigh due to its historic buildings, green spaces, and community feel; traits he enjoyed when living in Lincolnshire.

Craig was elected to Rochford District Council in 2018 representing residents of Downhall & Rawreth. In May 2021 the community also elected Craig as their Rayleigh County & Town Councillor.
Jonathan Stephenson, Chief Executive of Rochford District Council, cancelled all Council meetings as a mark of respect and to give time to grieve and to reflect and stated:

“All our thoughts and prayers are with Craig’s family at this very difficult time.“

To respect the wishes of Cllr Cannell’s family, the Council will postpone its tribute to Cllr Cannell until its meeting on 7 December 2021.
